The Story of Nick Merry
Operating out of a sun-drenched workshop in Melbourne, Australia, Nick Merry turns lumps of earth into functional art (or, as he affectionately calls them, "bowls n shit").
Before he was a potter, Nick spent years as a geologist. That deep, borderline-obsessive love for rocks and minerals never left him. Whether it’s the layered, shimmering elegance of schist or the beautiful banded grains of gneiss, Nick integrates geological textures, natural clay bodies, and mineral-heavy slip glazes directly into his creations.
His philosophy is simple: pottery should be highly functional, organic to hold, and completely free from pretension. From natural-textured nesting bowls for your morning sourdough to iron-spotted plates with a sleepy hand-painted tabby cat curled up on a computer keyboard, each piece tells a story of deep time, pressure, and heat.
